My husband and I exchange gifts with several of our neighbors each year for the holidays. It seems that each year it gets more difficult to think of a gift. This year we decided to give them cheese gift baskets. We did not like the pre-made cheese gift baskets that are available in the kiosks in the mall so we decided to create the baskets ourselves.
The pre-maid cheese gift baskets included processed cheese spreads. We were concerned about how long some of the baskets had been sitting around. We thought that if we made our own baskets the cheese would be of higher quality and we could choose varieties that we knew our friends liked.
We went to an import store and found wicker baskets to place the cheese in. The store had relatively cheap cheese cutters so we purchased one to place in each of the cheese gift baskets. We then went to a local deli. This deli wraps the meat and cheeses in paper. We did not want this for the gift basket. We decided to go to the supermarket and purchase large rounds of four cheeses.

Baptism Gift Ideas
One of my favorite of the baptism gifts is the baby’s first Bible. I love the idea of giving this special present to a little one. In the past, I have personalized the Bibles with a little note of love for the children who received them. The notes themselves make the baptism gifts individual and unique.
This was common practice for me. However, I ran into a significant problem with this practice. I was not the only one who bought these baptism gifts. My niece wound up with four baby Bibles and even though each one had a unique sentiment inside, the present did not seem to have as much meaning when accompanied by three others.
Buying Movie Gift Certificates
Going to the movies is a popular dating activity for almost any age group, and is great for first dates, or night away from the children for married couples. Catching a movie is also something friends like to do together to stay in touch.
Going to see the movies is a universal pastime that most people never grow out of in their lifetime. If you are looking for a gift for someone who has it all, you cannot go wrong with movie gift certificates.
You can find movie gift certificates at any movie theater, and you can also find them online. They come in a variety of amounts. You can decide to pay for admission to the movie for a couple, or you can add extra money to the certificate to cover popcorn or drinks, if you so choose. These are great for out of town guests who are coming in for a wedding or other special event.
Ideas On Graduation Gifts
Though an overtly sentimental gift may make a great first impression, graduates are most likely to really appreciate gifts they use on a day-to-day basis. Every time the graduate uses your gift, he or she will probably think about you and appreciate the gift even more. So, though you may be tempted to pick up that little teddy bear with the cap and gown, there’s a good chance the cute little teddy bear will gather dust on a shelf somewhere.
Buy graduation gifts that graduates will actually use. Sometimes this takes a little bit of investigation as to what the graduates have and want. Note that high-school graduates are going to have different wants and needs than college graduates. High school graduates will probably appreciate a number of gifts aimed at settling them into life away from home and in a dorm room. Small refrigerators or microwaves often go over well, as do durable plates and glasses. A handheld personal digital assistant (PDA) is another good graduation gift since it will help the graduate keep track of all of his or her appointments, tests, and social engagements when in college or out in the workforce.
The Perfect Personalized Gift
Don’t get me wrong. I am all for progress. In fact, I believe that mass production has made a number of items more affordable for the common man. If it were not for mass production, even everyday items would turn out to be exorbitantly priced. If we were to stick to the older methods of production, we could never hope to have enough of these everyday items to cater to the ever increasing population of our world. My gripe however, is based on the fact that mass production has all but killed off personalized gifts.
Gifts For Weddings
The good news is most of the time getting gifts for weddings is a piece of cake. The wedding gift process is simplified when the bride and groom register at a particular store or series of stores, listing products they could use. While it seems to take the surprise out of it a little, weddings aren’t birthdays or holiday celebrations; with such large scale gift giving event, practicality and efficiency holds more sway than surprise. Futhermore, it makes finding gifts for weddings easier than anything.
All you have to do to find good gifts for weddings is to contact the store the couple has registered with and see what is still available for purchasing. As different guests buy different items, the store will keep a record of it and so you don’t have to worry about getting something they’ll already have. Most of the time, they is a huge range of items covering different price areas to choose from, so you can comfortably find something in the dollar amount you had in mind.
50th Wedding Anniversary Gifts
Many of the 50th wedding anniversary gifts were the standard fare – hand blown glass, some of it really quite beautiful. Oil lamps, necklaces, wine flutes. God, in light of the momentous weight of the occasion, it all seemed like such meaningless junk. All the pretty sparkly things just made me feel dizzy and irritated. I needed something better for my 50th wedding anniversary gift. These wedding anniversary gift catalogs were doing nothing but giving me a headache.
Wine Gift Baskets
Wine gift baskets are a wonderful offering for any wine enthusiast. These gift baskets are extra special because they can be customized to the person’s tastes. Some folks create wine gift baskets for birthdays, holidays and special occasions. These adult gifts are appreciated because they offer a relaxing time that can be shared with friends, a partner or alone. A wine gift basket is one of my favorite gifts to give and to receive. One gift that stood out above most of the other gifts I received during my bridal shower was a special wine gift basket created by a friend of mine. She chose two wines that were her personal favorites, one red and one white. She included a decorative wine cork in the basket. She also provided my husband and me with lovely towels and two delicate wine glasses with our initials etched in the glass. In addition, she added scented candles as an afterthought.
My husband and I enjoyed the wine gift basket. We had a lovely candlelit evening and we relaxed with our wine and our beautiful glasses. We sipped on the wine while we sorted through our gifts and we reminisced over the thank-you cards that we completed during the evening. One of the most difficult tasks in writing thank-you notes for friends and relatives is remembering who gave which gift. We had no trouble remember our special friend who gave us the wine gift basket.Looking For Client Gifts That Make An Impression?
Clients are used to being bombarded with lack-luster promotional items like pens, pencils, magnets and calendars. However, more forward-thinking companies are learning to go one step further by appealing the to individual interests of their clients. This can be conveyed by offering a variety of client gifts that demonstrate a personal interest in the client.
Finding Catholic Gifts
It's getting harder and harder for me to find stores in my area that stock Catholic gifts, but thanks to the Internet, I'm never at a total loss for options. These days, there are numerous websites that sell nothing but high-quality Catholic gifts, which makes shopping for baptisms, first communions, confirmations, Christmas, and birthdays a breeze. Whenever one of these occasions comes up for someone in my circle of family and friends, I immediately go online and start checking out the wide variety of affordable Catholic gifts that are available.
What kind of Catholic gifts can I purchase online? Just about anything that I would be able to get in a regular store! For example, there are many websites that offer reading materials such as inspirational books, faith-based living guides, Bibles, and more. There are books geared towards all different age levels, so I am always sure to find exactly what I need for the recipient I have in mind.
Maternity Gifts
Often, during and after labor, doctors administer a drug called Pitocin to help with uterine contractions. Pitocin has a horrible side effect, water retention. Ankles and feet can swell to twice or three times their normal size. When considering maternity gifts, look at wide, comfortable slippers with good traction. Often, buying footwear a size larger than normal will work best. Even if the new mother only wears these slippers for the duration of the swelling, having a larger pair of footwear can be a treasure.
Pregnancy is a trying time. Emotions vary from minute to minute. Another great idea for maternity gifts is an afternoon out. You can buy the mother-to-be a gift certificate to a local spa or her favorite store. Dining out or attending a movie are also great ideas for maternity gifts. The idea is to get the mom-to-be away from work or errands and allow her to think only of herself. Even if the time away is only an hour, every minute can help reduce stress. She will definitely thank you for it!
Which Gift Cards To Get
I got the idea of buying gift cards from AutismLink.com. I work with autistic children and I am a member of Autism Link. I receive press releases, educational events and general information about autism in emails through the site. One of the emails suggested that people buy their gift cards through AutismLink.com. Some of the proceeds from each gift card purchased through the site is donated to autism research.
Just about everyone appreciates a gift card from their favorite store or restaurant, but presenting a gift card can be boring. However, gift cards that contribute to a good cause are wonderful to receive. It’s almost like giving two gifts in one. My friends and family were extremely happy to know that their purchases benefit autistic people and my best friend’s son, who is an adult with autism, was particularly proud of his gift.
Birthday Present For Dad
It seems that as years go buy thinking of gift ideas for birthdays and holidays gets to be more and more of a challenge. For me the most difficult idea is a birthday present for dad. My dad had worked very hard his entire life. He worked a full time factory job as well as farmed on the side.
This did not leave any extra time for developing any hobbies. When he retired from his job and rented out the farm land he did not know what to do with his time. My mother was excited that he was going to have time; however it is not easy to develop hobbies for the first time when you are sixty five.
When he was close to retirement I asked mom for ideas for a birthday present for dad. She said that I should look for some type of hobby for him to get into. I called one of my sisters and we agreed that we would go to a local hobby shop together to see if we could find a birthday present for dad.
There were many interesting hobbies in the shop, but none of them seemed to fit our dad’s interest our personality. My sister thought that he might enjoy putting together models. They did have models of tractors and farm equipment, but I just could not picture our dad sitting and gluing these pieces together. They had a set of whittling tools that were used to carve things out of wood.
Special Baby Gifts
I mentioned to one of the sales clerks that I needed special baby gifts for my niece’s baby. She stated that the store did have a line of infant things that can be personalized with the baby’s name. This sounded intriguing to me so I asked to see what was available in this line of merchandise. The clerk had several items in stock that she was able to show me. She showed me bibs that were embroidered with the infants name on them. She showed me a baby blanket that was embroidered with not only the baby’s name, but the date of birth and weight and length at birth.
Each of these special baby gifts needed to be special ordered and would be available in a week to ten days after the order was placed. The clerk also showed me several items in a catalog including diapers that were personalized with the baby’s name. I did like the unique aspects of these special baby gifts; however the shower was going to be held prior to the baby’s birth so I would not have the information that was needed to have the items personalized.
I found a small store that was filled with special baby gifts. This store had many of the same things from the department store, but they have a local seamstress that will complete the personalization within a day. I decided to purchase several of the special baby gifts. I bought the baby blanket that could have the baby’s personal information embroidered on. I also bought a picture frame that had a place to engrave the baby’s name. The picture frame also had space to frame the birth certificate next to the baby’s photo. I had the clerk wrap the gifts and she included a card with the shops name and telephone number so that my niece could have the embroidery and engraving completed once the baby was named. The shop charges a flat rate for the embroidery and engraving, which I paid for at the time of purchase. My niece would not have to pay anything to complete the personalization.

Unusual Christmas Gifts
Finding some unusual Christmas gifts for those you love is something of an art form. If you’re like me, you don’t like to buy boring things for people you care about. While clothes, jewelry, electronics, or steak knives are all great, they just aren’t very creative, are they? Finding unusual Christmas gifts is a great opportunity to show off your creative talents and get a real surprise from people.
One great unusual Christmas gift that I fall back on a lot is live animals. Most people would just say ‘pets’ but I’m saying live animals because traditional pets aren’t really all that creative either. A cat, dog, or hamster is certainly different, but isn’t what I would call a truly unusual Christmas gift. I’ve had some great reactions presenting loved ones with different amphibians and reptiles. Opening a box (with some well concealed air holes) to discover a live iguana is a sure fire way to get a priceless look on that special someone.
While the scaly critters are good, oversized insects are even better. One of the most unusual Christmas gifts I’ve given was a three-pound Brazilian beetle I affectionately named Bub (Big Ugly Bug). Oh how I wish I had a camera handy when my then girlfriend opened that lovingly wrapped box.One of the most exciting gifts a person can give is a new car. Just the words ‘honey, come outside, I have something to show you’ can inspire a rapid heartbeat on a Christmas day, especially if said while dangling a pair of keys. Cars are great gifts, but are far from unusual. Playing on this instinctual excitement is a great way to get an inspired reaction from your true love. When I lead my last girlfriend outside to present her a brand new llama, explaining that the keys I’d dangled in front of her are for the chains binding it to the fence, it was truly a beautiful moment in our relationship. What better way to say “I love you forever” than with a flea ridden 6-foot tall quadruped that spits? As an alternative to llamas, donkeys and kangaroos also make good unusual Christmas gifts.
Popular Christmas Gifts
I recall a few years back when my family thought it would be a great idea to draw names from a hat for Christmas. The concept basically derived from a desperate attempt to save money. We would each draw one name from a hat, and then we would only be obligated to buy that particular person a Christmas gift. Sounds cool, right? Well, as simple as it sounds, I had to get my aunt's name, who I hardly even know. What in the world was I going to get her? What were some popular Christmas gifts that would surely hit the spot? I didn't want to be one of those cheese balls with a festive sweater that would go straight to the garbage. My first plan was to ask my wife. What do women in their late 50s want? My wife was of course only 35 and had no idea. Strike one! I then hopped on the Internet in search of popular Christmas gifts for women.

Shopping For Gifts For Dads
One of the most difficult people to buy for can be your dad. It's really hard to think of something to buy for a guy who has already lived more than half of his life, and already bought most of his toys during a likely misspent youth. Finding and selecting gifts for dad can definitely be a challenge. I think one of the most typical and boring gifts for dad has to be socks. Why are socks one of the first things to pop into one's mind? I think it must be some strange psychological glitch. Somehow the words gifts for dad triggers the response of: socks. It really makes no sense at all, because EVERYONE needs socks at some point, but do you actually choose them as gifts? No, not unless the person is dad himself. Could it be something that happened in childhood that has forever doomed out poor fathers to gift after gift of any sordid variety of socks? Is it something he said perhaps? Whatever it is, it's a very strange phenomenon.
I have spent a good deal of time trying to dream up the very best gifts for dad. For some reason the second place our minds want to go seems to be: tools. For some reason dad must need another set of tools. A ratchet set perhaps?Read more about shopping for gifts for dads.
